The Skulk Map

You may have noticed on FB or twitter I have been asking for members of Fox Spirit skulk to tell us their nearest City or Town. These will be added as anonymous markers to our Skulk Map. I am not generally adding people without their giving me the information (with the exception of a few good friends) even though it’s anonymous on the site.

I would really like to see the spread worldwide of writers, artists and reviewers involved in Fox Spirit in someway, even if it’s a single story or a one off amazon review. So tweet us or message us @foxspiritbooks with your nearest town or city and we will add  a marker.

DRAG NOIR: this is where glamour meets grit, where everyone’s wearing a disguise (whether they know it or not) and knowing the players takes a lot more than simply reading the score cards. Maybe everyone’s got something to hide, but they’ve got something to reveal, too. Scratch the surface and explore what secrets lie beneath — it’s bound to cost someone…a lot.

Out Now! The Velocity of Constant

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if PK Dick wrote beat poetry? We may be getting close to answering that.

Leicester based poet Hardeep Sangha’s first novella length published work is now available in paperback from Amazon uk and worldwide.

‘Welcome to Shit Towne. Here denizens collide as they are propelled through a maelstrom of lives and time itself, struggling to escape the past and in constant search of an exit from the present. Whilst another within their midst, a man out of time, longs to return to the future. Lungs inhale, bodies contort and spines detach as all feel the unrelenting pull of velocity. ‘

A blend of poetry and prose, sci fi and a drug fueled hazy reality this is an exciting and unique offering in the world of genre fiction, all for the price of a frothy coffee.

We will be having a signing event with a number of authors to launch Velocity at Leicester Central Library on 6th November from 5pm.

Leicester workshops

So I will be doing a couple of sessions aimed at unpublished writers, covering some of the basics at the Leicester Phoenix for Creative Leicestershire.

***

Creative Leicestershire in partnership with Fox Spirit Books are offering ‘A Quick Guide to Your Publishing Options’ over two twilight sessions in October. These sessions are aimed at unpublished writers who want to explore their options with an introductory overview to the world of publishing. Join us for discussion and workshops and bring a layer of thick skin as you will need to be prepared to give and take some feedback.

Session 1 will focus on choosing your route; self, small or traditional big press publishing and the pros and cons of each. It will also cover contacting, querying and dealing with publishers.

Session 2  will explore having an online presence, managing your online identity and interacting publicly with fans and reviewers.

Both sessions will offer a Q&A opportunity.

Adele Wearing ran a book review site and was involved in literary events for a number of years before starting Fox Spirit Books. As a small publisher she works around her day job with a copy editor and book formatter to produce quality genre fiction and occasional non-fiction. Fox Spirit has been running for just over two years and this year was short listed for Best Small Press and Anthology for Tales of Eve by the British Fantasy Society.

Places are limited to 12 per session.

#FILLTheVOID

Our #FILLTheVOID campaign to turn Kneel Downe’s popular VIRULENTBLURB novella, THE JACKPORT KILLER into an audio book has less than two weeks left on Indiegogo.

Our goal is to raise £2,500 in order to finalise all the additional costs of studio work, as production and distribution is all covered. Recording will take place at the award winning Spokenworld Audio studio in London and we have secured the services of acclaimed actor Greg Patmore to lend his voice to the world-weary, wolf-spliced Detective Kurt Lobo.

A damaged serial killer is stalking the city streets.

Bodies left at random.

Ritualistic in their method.

Brutal.

Can Detective Lobo find the JackPort Killer before events get too close?

Too personal?

Welcome to The Endless, Sprawling, Neon City beneath the broken EverNight.

Welcome to the world of The Wolf.

Acclaimed author Kneel Downe released the first of his Detective Kurt Lobo case files, The JackPort Killer, in May this year to great critical reception and his VirulentBlurb universe grew bigger. Starburst Magazine picked up on the teaser trailer for it and reviewed the book, saying “you will soon find yourself completely immersed into the bizarre, cyberpunk, dystopian world Downe has created, and find yourself wanting more” and TheCultDen gave it 10/10.  Now the universe is set to expand again as, for the first time, the Wolf gets a voice when The JackPort Killer comes to audio book!

We have struck a deal with London-based award winning studio Spokenworld Audio, winners this year of both an Audie and a New York Award for their work, and the production and distribution costs are sorted. The search then began across the globe for a voice actor to bring Lobo to life in a way that excited both Kneel and the fans. After an extensive hunt, actor Greg Patmore of Big Finish fame was approached.

We were all delighted when Greg read The Jackport Killer and loved it. He has excitedly agreed to the role and plans have been started to go into production of a full audio book.

This is where you come in!  The silence is unbearable.  The wolf must tell his tale…  Help us to give a voice to Detective Kurt Lobo.  Help us #FILLTheVOID

Chapter Twelve

I spent a month recovering in Noah’s Ark. Of course, I was reprimanded by Mother and Father. I let my quarry get away. What happened to the blood feud? Why wasn’t I chasing him? They were shocked by the news of my craz addiction. Father wanted to pull me off-duty, but I fought and argued with him. I lost Mariette. I wanted revenge. It was more than clan honor now –  it was truly blood feud now. Yeung Leung had effectively drugged and killed Mariette, in spirit and in body. He had her blood – and countless others – on his hands. He had killed kin. My hatred for him burned like a white star.

Dr Myint and his colleagues worked on my right arm and hand. Some flesh was restored, but my right arm was

now crooked and unable to move. Even turning now was agony. My body was broken. Looking at my arm made my heart lurch. It was never easy, trying to reconcile t the shrunken arm with its former healthy version. With luck, Dr Myint reassured me, the arm would regain some tone.

In the midst of all this, Yeung Ma and her brother were kept in the clan prison for high-level criminals. They were given adequate food and water.

Lien was surprisingly welcomed by my clan, given her feral status and an Amber Eyes-Pariah child. She played with my younger cousins and cousins’ children, Mog play-bowing and happy to have play mates. Yet I caught Mother’s glance a few times, that calculating gleam in her eyes. She had something in mind and I didn’t like the taste of it.

Help her, the message had said. Help her.

When the month was over, I was ready for the hunt. The hunt for Yeung Leung.

Starfang slipped out of dock, like a silent predator.
